Overview: The Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH) is a non-profit, multi–service, community development corporation serving East Boston, an ethnically diverse, low and moderate- income neighborhood. NOAH has offered ESOL classes for the last five years to help meet the need for immigrants to learn English.

Job Provide quality ESOL instruction to adult students in NOAH’s Level Two class.

Description: NOAH’s Level Two ESOL course meets twice each week – Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 – 8:30 p.m., running in two 12-week sessions throughout the year. The course is geared towards any East Boston adult resident, though the majority of our students are Latino. NOAH’s ESOL Teacher will be paid for two hours of prep time/week in addition to class hours. Duties include: 1) Design lesson plans and develop curriculum materials 2) Provide high-quality classroom instruction; 3) conduct pre- and post-testing and other placement and evaluation activities; 4) maintain student files and program records; 5) attend training sessions as necessary; and 6) work with ESOL Coordinator and Director of Community Building and Environment to ensure excellent program delivery. In addition to the Wednesday/Friday class, the ESOL Teacher may also take responsibility for an Advanced Level 2 Class on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, depending on availability and experience.

Reports to: Community Organizer/ESOL Coordinator

Dates: Beginning January 2012

Hours: Seven hours/week: this includes 5 hours of class time and two hours of prep time. Teach from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Salary: $17 - $20/hour, depending upon education and experience.

Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree. Written and oral English fluency. Two years experience teaching adult learners at the beginner to intermediate level. Comfort with MS Office.
Preferred: Degree or certificate in TESOL, or related field. Oral Spanish proficiency. Experience with the BEST and/or BEST Plus. Familiarity with Central and South American cultures
