An Act relative to the central registry of voters

An Act relative to the central registry of voters

(S. 297)

Lead Sponsor: Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz

This bill recognizes the legitimate role that non-profit and advocacy organizations play in our civil society by adding them to the list of entities that may obtain registered voter information from the Secretary of State. It permits non-profits to obtain information for a fee, strictly for the purposes of civic engagement, public policy advocacy, and political advocacy. Currently, voter information, maintained in the Central Registry of Voters, is made available to state party committees, statewide candidate committees, and state ballot question committees at a fair and reasonable cost, not to exceed the cost of printing or preparing computer readable documents.
